Snow Snow Go Away, Come Again Another Day! (like January 2016)

And, its official, I am completely and totally OVER winter.  Done.  Though it doesn't seem to be done with us.  And, to think, a few weeks ago I really believed we were going to get through this winter with no snow!  I mean, if you ask me, the 3 days of snow we had last year (at about this same time!) was enough to last us for a couple of years!

So last week we had ice.  Thankfully it came in the form of sleet, not freezing rain, so we avoided losing our power at least.  Ice stinks, unless you're 6 and think its fun and want to play in it.  We managed to slide over to a neighbor's house the first "snow day" without breaking anything!

Later that day Kate, accompanied by her protector, spent some time playing in the backyard.  Mommy and Anna Clare opted out - it was cold!

Then we spent the remainder of the 2 days at home trying out some indoor activities.  Some of which were great.  Others of which left a certain 2 year old looking a bit like a smurf!

So after two "snow days" and two mornings of delayed school starts we had one day back on our routine.  One glorious morning of dropping Kate off at school at 7:45.  Then it snowed again.  Only this time it was a dusting that was laughable - yet schools were closed again.  Sigh.  The problem with Greenville County is that it goes way north into towns that are almost in the mountains!  And they get snow up there.  So we get days like today.  A snow day with very little snow.

Ridiculous right - no school for this!?!  The best part of the day was that Anna Clare's preschool still opened!  Ha - take that Greenville County schools!  So Kate and I dropped Anna Clare off at school and went about our day running errands.

But before we headed out, both girls spent a little time shoveling snow on the back deck!

And it seems as if the next (and hopefully last) snow "event" as they like to call them in the south, is headed our way.  Supposedly we will be getting several inches of snow again tomorrow night.  Fingers crossed all the weather people are wrong and both girls are at school on Thursday.  But just in case they're not mistaken about the forecast, we have lots of milk & bread.  (and alcohol - when was the last time you were locked in a house for several days with 2 screaming children?)

At this point I'm seriously ready for summer!

The Highs and Lows of January 2015

Well, I can't say that it has been a super exciting start to 2015 but here are the highlights (at least the ones I managed to capture in pictures).

This picture of Anna Clare pretty much sums her up about now - she constantly has a "chewy" in her mouth.  And is typically found following me around the house pointing into her open mouth and saying "ouchy" - guess who has her 2 year molars coming in?!?  Fingers crossed they come in fast.

So thanks to one of our many (MANY) Fancy Nancy books I was sorta familiar with the 100th day of school concept.  Well, it happened.  Kate is officially 100 Days Smarter!  We were tasked with creating a t shirt with 100 somethings on it.  So we took a trip to Hobby Lobby and Kate choose googly eyes (the ones with the eyelashes - because they were girly!).  And I broke out the glue gun and went to work.  The little fashion-ista chose the New York Giants hair bow and glittery headband.  (and, why yes, that is the minivan she's in because mommy forgot to take the picture before leaving for school and had to pull off the road and make Kate get out of her seat so this could be shared in the blog!)

Kate started taking gymnastics class in January.  She's having a great time and actually still wants to go to class after a full month has passed.  I certainly don't expect her to become some great gymnast but it is nice that she actually wants to participate in some kind of activity!  Finally!

Kate and I were able to go see Fancy Nancy at the Peace Center in downtown last weekend.  Another pair of freebie tickets in exchange for my glowing review of the play put on by the SC Children's Theatre.  I'm thinking Kate may need to go to drama camp at SCCT this summer...

And last but certainly not least - the girls had a little Valentines Day photo shoot a few weekends ago.  Now that Anna Clare is a little older she's realizing that she is not in most of the pictures in the house!  Sadly, she has begun carrying the photo of Kate after her baptism around the house saying "mommy, daddy, me me" (what she calls herself).  I haven't had the heart to tell her that its actually Kate in the photo.  But her mean sister spilled the beans the other day.  Time to get some new photos up!
