A Little Catching Up To Do!

Mountain Fun!

One of the many great things about being back in the Carolinas is we're only a short drive to the mountains!  While we loved escaping Texas for Boone each summer for several weeks its even nicer to be only a few hours away from a whole different world!  We've visited Echota twice so far this summer and enjoyed every minute of it.  The pool, the cool air, the parks, the community, the cute mountain towns.  Here are a few pictures we've taken on our last trip up the hill!

Practicing for Kindergarten!

So a few nights ago Brett let me in on the fact that he has a co-worker who's wife packs his lunch for work everyday.  And she puts a "motivational note" in the bag too.  Seriously?!?  I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time!

Yet, I know a challenge when I hear it.  And anyone who knows me well knows that one of my favorite past times is making fun of my husband.  I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity!

So here is what Brett took to work the next day.  Somehow I forgot to take a picture of the "motivational note" that said "You're smart.  You're kind.  And people like you." (remember Stuart Smalley from Saturday Night Live?) Conveniently Brett had meetings with the entire call center staff this day.  Showing everyone the lunch sack and the motivational note was the perfect ice breaker.  I swear, sometimes he just makes it so easy to pick on him!  (and perhaps i included a juice box in the lunch sack too...)

Swim team season #1 is complete!

The month of June was busy, busy, busy with daily swim practice and 4 swim meets against other Guppy swimmers from nearby communities.  It was a super fun experience for everyone!  Kate loved everything about being on swim team - her team mates, her coaches, the helpers (teenage girls who were happy to dote on the younger kids!) and of course the swimming.  We couldn't be more proud of her!  She's come a long way in a few weeks.  And had fun doing it!

And finally...  Brett took Kate horseback riding for the first time Saturday afternoon.  He said she acted like a big girl, was respectful to the horses and the people working with them and rode like a pro!  He was so proud of her she got an ice cream treat afterwords!

Swim team summer continues...

Swim meet #2 is officially in the books!  I still can't believe how far these little kids have come in a only few short weeks!

At the start of June these kids began swim team practice by jumping off the wall, over and over, and swimming a few feet to the steps.  On day 3 of swim practice I watched Coach Kate line the kids up to jump off the swim team starting blocks.  I was shocked - it was day 3 of swim practice with a bunch of 5 year olds!  Though it took some time and coaxing to get all the kids jumping off the blocks they eventually did it!

In a Guppy swim meet the kids jump off the block and swim the 25 meter pool length 4 times to include freestyle, backstroke, kick board and a relay. (they have "helpers" who stay with them the entire length of the pool)  Though Kate isn't the fastest swimmer in the group she's having a fun time being on swim team and working really hard.  Brett and I couldn't be prouder of our little swimmer girl!

Growing up in the south our neighborhood swim team was a big deal!  Now that we're in Greenville I'm super excited to be in a neighborhood with a fantastic swim team!  I'm already looking forward to many swim-team-summers in Spaulding Farm!
